Reflecting on the Year That Was, and Looking Ahead to 2026

As this year draws to a close, we’ve taken a moment to pause and reflect, not just on what has been achieved, but on why this work matters.

The past year has reminded us that early childhood education is, at its core, about people. About children needing to feel safe and seen. About educators showing up each day with care, patience, and professionalism, often carrying far more than what is visible. About families and communities placing deep trust in those who care for their children.

At ECE Community, our commitment remains grounded in the belief that every person connected to early childhood education, children, educators, families, and community members, deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported.

Grounded in Rights and Ethics

Our work continues to be guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms every child’s right to safety, dignity, participation, and wellbeing. Children are capable, active individuals with voices that matter, and protecting their rights must always come first.

We are also guided by the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics, which reminds us of the responsibility, integrity, and care required in this profession. It recognises the depth of educators’ work and the importance of acting with respect, accountability, and compassion, toward children, families, colleagues, and ourselves.

Learning From the Year That Was

This year has been one of listening, learning, and connection. We have witnessed the strength and resilience of educators, the challenges faced across communities, and the ongoing need for spaces where people can come together with honesty, respect, and care.

It has reaffirmed the importance of advocacy that is human-centred — advocacy that uplifts children’s rights, supports educators, and strengthens communities, without losing sight of the heart of this work.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look toward 2026, ECE Community is stepping forward with clarity and purpose, as an advocate for early childhood education in Australia and across the globe.

Our focus remains on:

  • upholding and protecting children’s rights and wellbeing

  • supporting educators through connection, shared knowledge, and respect

  • fostering inclusive, ethical, and compassionate conversations

  • strengthening the voice of early childhood education within communities

We believe advocacy doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. It needs to be grounded, ethical, and led with care.

Together, we are working toward a future where:

  • every child can thrive in safe and nurturing environments

  • every educator feels valued, supported, and heard

  • every community understands the importance of early childhood education

This is the work we carry forward into the year ahead, with hope, responsibility, and deep respect for the people who make early childhood education what it is.

Because when we honour children’s rights, uphold ethical practice, and stand alongside educators and communities, we create lasting change.
